Victorian Diamond Set Passion Cross Pendant
in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A striking Victorian era cross pendant, modeled in 14k yellow gold and set with seven sparkling diamonds. This large passion cross features stylized pointed ends. Its seven old mine cut diamonds rest in star-shaped seats, which are arranged in a linear fashion, across its horizontal and vertical beams. This is a beautifully made antique cross, meant to represent the cross of Christ's suffering. In Western christianity the number seven is often thought to symbolize perfection or completeness. The cross hangs from an oversized bail. Diamond CTW is approx .80 carats— these charming old diamonds are white and very lively! This wears especially well on a long chain.
c. 1890 - 1900
Cross measures approx 2 1/2" x 1 5/8" (without bail); diamonds (7) measure approx 3 - 3.5 mm; diamond CTW is approx .80 carats.
