Art Deco OEC Diamond Engagement Ring
* * SOLD * *
A charming Art Deco era engagement ring, modeled in 18k white gold, by the well-known jewelry house Belais. This toi et moi style ring features a pair of 1/2 carat old European cut diamonds— these old sparklers are stacked (north/south) at the center of the ring face, where they are bead-set into diamond-shaped seats. This hand-pierced, low-profile, filigree ring has a broad (but not long) shield-like form. The openwork is a crisp and angular, modified meander pattern, within which a pair of large, three-pointed ivy leaves live. These ivy leaves grace the ring's shoulders. The ring's slender, half-round shank is notched below the shoulder, and it tapers toward the base. The diamonds are bright, lively, and beautifully matched— G/H, SI1. This ring is marked 18k, for purity, and for the maker Belais.
The meander pattern (named for the 250-mile-long Meander River) is symbolic of infinity and of "the eternal flow of things." Ivy leaves are traditional symbols of fidelity, vitality, and everlasting life. 'Toi et Moi' is French for 'you and me.' A toi et moi ring features two stones that are of central (and more or less equal importance/weight) in the composition. Historically, these two-stone rings have symbolized two people joined in love.
