An Art Nouveau era pendant, fabricated in 14k yellow gold and platinum, whose elaborate, curling, filigree acts as a frame for a remarkable dendritic agate tablet. This oval picture agate is set in a slim, milgrained bezel, at the pendant's base. It offers us a view of a distant treeline, standing in a field of snow— small, dark footprints seem to mark the snow, ahead of this stand of feathery trees. The pendant's filigree reads like a gate through which we view this poetic landscape. Our "gate" is decorated with diamond-set, platinum spires, platinum fleur de lis finials, and a central, glittering platinum snowflake. The diamonds, here are a combination of old European cuts and old rose cuts— all are vibrant and white, with excellent clarity. This pendant is large but visually delicate. It hangs from a stylized, oversized bail. We love this pendant for it's masterfully cut agate (note the ridge that perfects the treeline), for its thoughtful design, and meticulous hand-fabricated construction! It reads like a conversation between the architectural aspects of the burgeoning Art Deco movement, and the romantic, naturalistic world of the established Art Nouveau. Marked 585 for purity, this pendant was acquired in Sweden.
