Mid 20th Century Emerald & Diamond Bombe Ring
in 18k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A glamorous, mid-twentieth-century ring, modeled in 18k yellow gold, whose cushion-shaped face is encrusted with an ornate arrangement of gemstones— many, sparkling round brilliant cut diamonds, surrounding a central, dark-green, step-cut emerald. This ring has a soft, bombe-like profile. The emerald rests at the center of the ring face, in a smooth bezel, while the diamonds are bead-set into "floating" triangular and tapering-rectangular seats, arranged to suggest a Maltese cross, and rays emanating from the emerald. The ring's undergallery is hand-pierced with an intricate folate pattern (laurels, perhaps). Its half-round shank is slender, and it tapers toward the base. The quality of construction here is top-notch— the milgrain details, diamond-setting, and finishing work are incredibly crisp and precise, even under magnification, and the diamonds are of excellent quality (G/H, VS). This is a striking ring and it is surprisingly cozy in wear, thanks to the soft, curved undergallery! Marked 750 for purity.
