An 18th century, Portuguese, imperial topaz and chrysoberyl ring, fabricated in 18k gold and silver. The oval topaz, here, is foil-backed and flashes in a range of peach/pink/gold tones. Set into the ring's silver face, and held in small beaded prongs, it is surround by a double border of mine cut chrysoberyls. The ring's face is collect-edged; its closed-back head (gold) sits atop a wide, deeply-chased shank. The ring shank is embellished with an ornate floral pattern, and three dimensional thistles flare at its split shoulder, offering a third connection point. This ring is all original and a very rare find!
