The subtly-convex backsides of these earrings are decorated with the most beautiful, deeply-hand-engraved details— each of the individual diamonds has a flower engraved behind it, to mark its presence in the arrangement, on the reverse, as if one were the shadow of the other! The construction of these earrings is impeccable. They drop from the earlobe, and are versatile and easy-wearing, thanks to their diminutive size.

These earrings would have been buttons for a garment, originally.  Latching mechanical backs are 18k gold, and were added later, probably around 1900.
