A Georgian era rivière (rih-vyair) necklace, modeled in 12k rose gold, whose "river" of gemstones is a graduating series of foil-backed, faceted, round amethysts. These vibrant purple gems are mounted in hand-fabricated, cut-down collets, and each setting has a closed, high-dome back that reads like a shiny bubble. The collets, here, are low profile, so the amethyst gems appear to float on the wearer's neck. They are connected by a series of open rings, and the necklace closes with a hidden box clasp. The cushion-shaped amethyst that hides the clasp is especially wonderful for its strong light-to-dark color zoning and black rutile inclusions. The necklace's centermost setting is fitted with a small hook, and the matching cross that hangs from this hook is miraculously still with the necklace. This is a rarity.
