Edwardian Enamel Hat as Flower Basket Charm
in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A darling turn of the century charm, modeled in 14k yellow gold as a straw hat, filled to overflowing with daisies and forget me nots! These enameled flowers are clustered naturalistically across the hat's opening, which is pinched closed by a curling ribbon handle. This miniature is especially realistic, thanks to the finely-executed texture of the woven hat, and its "pinched" form! It conjures the romantic image of a young woman, out on a walk in the country, who removes her hat to fill it with field flowers, and that carefree scene perfectly embodies the era's Gibson Girl and "new woman." This is a rarity. It hangs from a large jump ring.
