Art Nouveau Un Moment Donné Slide Locket
* * SOLD * *
A lovely Art Nouveau-era slide locket, modeled in 18k yellow gold, whose petite octagonal face features a portrait of a smiling young woman, shown in profile. This portrait is especially charming and unusual for its photographic quality — the realistically-carved subject appears to have been caught in a laugh, her posture suggesting casual movement, rather than a pose. She wears a soft, oversized bow in her short, curly hair, and this bow is embellished with a small rose-cut diamond, set in a platinum bezel. The locket's reverse is decorated with a climbing rose; it is engraved "Pila." This locket slides apart to reveal space for a pair of photos, and it is secured by a locking, pin-and-eye-style mechanism at the base. The original photo rings and celluloid covers are present. The portrait on the locket face is signed by the artist, LB Cia. This is a beautifully-made and weighty little locket.
The woman, here, looks a lot like the dancer and actress Irene Castle.
