Antique Russian Miniature Egg Charm
* * SOLD * *
A lovely, Imperial Russian miniature egg pendant, made around the turn of the 20th century. This egg-shaped pendant is modeled in 56 zolotnik gold, and is decorated with fine, powder-blue guilloche enamel work, whose pattern resembles layered feathers or leaves. This little egg has a small six-pointed star on its bottom. We are confident that this egg belongs to the house of Fabergé, but the original suspension loop has been lost, and with it the definitive marks. The guilloche pattern, the star, and the particular alloy of gold all point to its origins; our pricing is considerate of the missing marks.
56 Zolotnik Gold (14k)
c. 1890 - 1900
Length without suspension ring approx 16.1 mm; width is approx 10 mm.
This little egg was part of a family collection, originating in St. Petersburg, and passed down from a great-grandmother to her female grandchildren. Each of these eggs, which were originally given as gifts during eastertide, was sewn into this woman's garments when her family fled to Finland, to escape the violence of the Russian Revolution.
