Sleek Georgian Enamel Mourning Band
for George Moody in 18k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A beautiful, Georgian-era, wide band ring, modeled in 18k gold and decorated with black enamel. This broad, flat mourning band was made in memory of George Moody, and it is dated for the year 1818. This has a very subtle ribbed detail, at the lip, but its striking, clean lines are otherwise uninterrupted. The band's smooth, enameled face reads “in memory of,” in bold gothic script. A cross, with rays (looking very much like a flower), punctuates the sentiment, functioning like a jewel at the center of the band. This ring bears a full series of English hallmarks, noting manufacture in London in the year 1817, along with the maker's monogram, SG. The inscription reads "George Moody Obt 21 Mar 1818 Aet 60." Condition is outstanding, with just a single, shallow spot of loss. This is especially desirable for its sleek lines and its bold, graphic quality.
