Vibrant and tranquil, a round, faceted, 2.2 carat, blue zircon gem lays nested, inside a thick-walled, organic bezel, which tapers seamlessly into its ring's integral shank. Zircon is an unusual gemstone that has the distinction of being the oldest mineral found on earth, at 4.4 billion years old— in the middle ages it was thought to induce sound sleep, and to drive away evil spirits. This blue zircon gem was originally mined and cut in the 1930s— its facets have been carefully refreshed by a local cutter.

This "old material" is exceptional in color, being a highly-saturated teal-blue, and zircon's superior light refraction makes it a top-notch sparkler! This ring is modern and organic— its graceful shape is reminiscent of the beautiful pixie cup lichens (Cladonia asahinae). Metal is 18k yellow gold; it is delicately brushed. This would make a wonderful, unique engagement ring.

This ring was entirely handcrafted in Portland, OR, by collaborating, independent craftspeople and designers— even the antique gemstone was sourced locally.
