Poor Mouchette

A beautiful, esoteric, Catholic medal, modeled in 18k yellow gold, honoring Saint Luigi Gonzaga, patron saint of plague victims. Luigi Gonzaga was an Italian aristocrat who gave up his rights of inheritance to take vows, and to care for the seriously ill. He died in service, in the year 1591, caring for the sick, during an epidemic. This lovely, finely-detailed medal depicts the saint with a cross, a crown, and a clutch of lilies. He has thoughtful, downcast eyes and he wears a sweet expression. This hangs from a large, oval jump ring. It is marked for the Italian maker UnoAerre, and with 750 for purity. We love the rich high color of this medal, and the delicate lines of its carving.
