Vintage Mexican Gusano Earrings with Pearls in Sterling Silver
* * SOLD * *
A vintage pair of sterling silver gusano earrings, designed by Elena Solow, to reflect the design principles of traditional Mexican jewelry. These earrings feature two rows of sewn freshwater pearls which are framed by an ornate, curling, "filigree" border. The earring's centerpiece swings from a shepherd's hook earwire that is decorated with a pearl-set flower; a further pearl-set flower dangles from the base of the earring, and three more grace the north, east, and west points of the centerpiece. Gusano means worm-shaped and that term describes the elongated form of the earring, and the manner in which its long section bends or curves. These are lovely in wear— the lustrous pearls make a striking contrast to the heavily oxidized silver.
