Victorian Willow Leaves Star Sapphire Ring in 10k Gold
* * SOLD * *
An antique ring, in a classic tapering shape, intricately decorated with a stippled texture that's overlaid with gracefully-carved pairs of willow leaves. The ground color of this ring is rose gold, and the raised leaves are yellow gold— there is a good deal of contrast between these two colors and the finish is vibrant. The stippled texture is reminiscent of tree bark. This ring is set with an ethereal, periwinkle blue star sapphire. The 1.57 carat oval cabochon is held aloft in a six-prong claw setting. The band tapers from the shoulder, and the backside is polished smooth. A wonderful, unusual, Victorian-era ring that stacks well with other small pieces.
Very good. Please see notes.
Ring face measures approx 8 x 7.125 mm. Ring shank measures approx 3.5 mm at the shoulder and tapers to 1.35 mm at the back.
Please note the fractures and cleaving present in this star sapphire, that are made highly visible by my magnified photos— one of these lines does reach the surface of the stone. Only the central vertical line you see, here, is somewhat visible without magnification, and it reads as a part of the star. The stone appears smooth and glassy to the un-aided eye. It is very common for sapphires to have fractures and visible inclusions, and frequently, in star sapphires, the fractures are left intact because they are integral to the star effect. It's poetic, if you think about it— a hidden flaw creating the effect of a beautiful star.
