A large, elaborate, Victorian-revival era brooch, that takes the form of a crowned bumble bee. This striking insect's spread, silver-top wings are encrusted with tiny turquoise cabochons and natural see pearls; her abdomen is decorated with bands of lime-green guilloche enamel that alternate with bands of opaque black enamel. Her eyes are set with natural rubies, and her thorax is crowned with a cluster of old cut diamonds, set in platinum, and arranged to resemble a flower. This is a striking and really interesting period brooch. Those with academic inclinations will no doubt be charmed by its myriad, colorful, revivalist aspects.
