Victorian Pearl & Quartz Brooch for Sweet Alister in 14k Gold

A beautiful Victorian-era brooch which encapsulates, under it's domed quartz crystal, a fine, casually-looped lock of hair. The clear, high-dome, quartz cabochon is encircled by a luminous series of natural pearls. Because the hair beneath the crystal lies at the edge of its magnifying field, it doesn't show when the brooch is viewed from the top (as you would always see it while it's being worn). This secret makes the brooch especially interesting to us, as does the hidden inscription— "sweet Alister's hair, March 3, 1892," followed by a series of (possibly) Cyrillic letters we can't quite decipher. This is a quiet, mysterious, and very personal object, with a modern looking topside— the long bar and central circle of its design being almost minimalist. We think it is likely that the brooch memorializes a child. Closure is a c-catch with a dropping security foot.
