Victorian Lion & Lioness OMC Diamond Set Earrings in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A pair of antique earrings, featuring some of the best carving I've ever seen— one earring depicts a lioness, and the other her lion. These regal beasts hold, in their mouths, a bezel-set, old mine cut diamond. The relief carving casts the pair in profile, on an oval field, before a clutch of grasses. The earrings are finished with a rich, bloomed surface. Fittings are French earwires with a locking catch. Metal is 14k yellow gold. Lions symbolized power, courage and prestige for the Victorians, who often adorned themselves with jewels that were not simply decorative, but that held special significance for them.
Excellent, w/new earwires
Plaques measure approx 17.4 mm x 11.2 mm. Diamonds measure approx 2.5 mm.
