Victorian Era Man in the Moon Hardstone Cameo Flip Fob in 15k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A Victorian-era fob, modeled in 15k rose gold, set with a soulful and very unusual man in the moon cameo. This cameo is hand-carved from the striped, hardstone material we sometimes refer to as sardonyx— its field is a vibrant russet color, while the face of the moon is luminous and white, standing above it. This antique fob is made to flip inside its knot-crowned, arched bracket; when flipped, the reverse side is decorated with beautiful hand-engraved decor. The subject matter of this hardstone cameo is rare, and the quality of the carving exceptional. The engraved details, encircling the cameo's setting, seem to indicate the soft light the moon emits. We love this moon man's sweet, peaceful expression and his magnificent beard! This hangs from a large, weighty jump ring.
Drop measures approx 5/16"; bracket width measures approx 16 mm (at the widest point); spinner element width measures approx 11.7 mm (at the widest point); cameo measures approx 8 x 13.9 mm.
There is a small area of loss in the thin gold bezel; this does not effect the stability of the setting and it is only noticeable upon close inspection.
