Victorian Era Boar's Head Hardstone Intaglio Seal Signet Ring in 15k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A wonderful, Victorian era signet ring, modeled in 15k yellow gold, whose hardstone intaglio seal is masterfully carved with an English-style boar’s head. This boar is fierce and very handsome, with extra-fine, precise line work to illustrate his wiry hair, his lolling tongue, and his soft-focus far ear. This ring is the classic "signet shape," with an oval face and a tapering profile. Its shoulders are decorated with an ornate carved pattern of knots, and this Celt-inflected decor extends into the gallery. This ring is hallmarked for Birmingham and for the year 1864.
In heraldry, a boar's head is associated with hospitality, generosity, and it is a popular charge among noble houses. This ring is seriously charming! It is well-suited to all genders.
