Victorian Enamel Miniature Charm of Cleopatra in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A Victorian-era enamel miniature, depicting the bust of a regal-looking Egyptian, wearing an ornate headdress. The style of this headdress and the figure in profile reads strongly as Cleopatra. This miniature portrait is made in at multiple colors of vitreous enamel and is enhanced with gold gilt; it was painted, fired and afterward affixed to its gold frame with small folding tabs that are visible on its heavily-patinated backside. I believe this little charm was always a charm, but it is possible that it's an early conversion. It is really (!) exquisite and unusual for its exceptionally small scale.
Measures approx 11.7 mm; bail adds approx 4.2 mm to length.
