Victorian Black Onyx Flower Mourning Earrings with Pearls in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A pair of antique, Victorian-era, mourning earrings, each taking the form of a flower, whose six petals curve slightly, like teardrops organized around a natural, central pearl. These flower petals are are all inlaid with carefully-shaped flat cuts of black onyx, as are the three long drops that hang from the bottom of each flower. The edges of the channels or bezels that hold the onyx gems are all finished with a tidy milgrain detail. The flowers and the drops, alike, are accented with granulated gold balls. Metal is 14k rosy yellow gold. These have a lovely swinging movement, in wear.
Excellent, w/new post backs
Earrings measure approx 34 mm long, including drops; flowers are approx 17 mm across; pearls are approx 2 mm. These are statement size, but not heavy; each earring weighs approx 2.8 grams.
These earrings were probably made for pierced ears, originally, but sometime in the early-to-mid part of the 20th century they were converted to screw backs; we have removed the screw backs, and added new 14k gold posts.
