Trio of Linked 19th Century Sri Lankan Jargoon Set Brooches in Gilt Silver
* * SOLD * *
A set of 19th century, Sri Lankan, jargoon-set turban ornaments. These chained brooches depict charming, fantastical posies, whose various flowers remind me of the plants in the Codex Seraphinianus, and also a little of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. These ornaments are made in gilt silver, and their moody, glinting jargoons (the gem we now call white zircon) are held fast in closed back settings. It is a fine and rare thing to find these three friends still linked together, after all these years. They would look so tough and pretty pinned together on the lapel of a heavy garment, and would suit a man or a woman equally beautifully.
