Victorian Revival Diamond Set Dolphin Brooch in 18k Gold
* * SOLD * *
An impressive vintage brooch, depicting a plumed dolphin, made in the mid twentieth century to reflect the style of the Victorian era. This lovely creature is modeled in 18k yellow gold; the ribbon banners that float about his tail and wing are made in 18k white gold and set with diamonds. This is the form all dolphins took earlier in history— people imagined them as friendly sea serpents who rescued sailors in peril. For this reason dolphins represent swiftness, charity, and love. This sweet creature is extra large and weighty; there is enough room behind the pin to secure him to even the heaviest scarf or lapel. It is very uncommon to find a brooch of this size and weight, made in gold.
Measures approx 50 mm x 33 mm. Diamonds average 2 mm; CTW is approx .87. Weight is approx 22.46 grams.
