Large Victorian Era Jet & Diamonds Rebirth Locket in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A large, Victorian-era locket, carved from Whitby jet, whose applied, 14k gold, crescent moon and folate decor speaks to the idea of rebirth. In some cultures the upturned crescent moon is thought to catch rainwater during the wet season, then it drops that water onto the earth, as the phases of the moon change. In this locket’s story, a bit of new growth is partnered with the wet moon, which is set with little old mine cut diamonds. The locket’s reverse features an empty, glazed compartment, to hold a photo of your loved one, or a lock of their hair. This locket is suspended from a weighty enameled bail, which takes the form of an elongated pentagon; the glazed compartment on the reverse lifts out easily, and snaps firmly back into place.
Measures approx 41.6 mm x 29 mm; the bail adds approx 18.5 mm to the length; total length is approx 2.36"; diamonds (8) measure 1.5 - 2.5 mm; glazed compartment will hold a photo that is approx 33.5 x 19 mm.
