Ilias Lalaounis Fretwork & Meander Rock Crystal Drop Earrings in 18k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A striking pair of 18k gold earrings by the beloved Greek designer Ilias Lalaounis, whose focal drops are long, tapering, rock crystal plaques, deeply carved with a classic meander pattern (this motif is also called Greek key). These frosty crystal plaques are held in heavy, low-profile, bezels; these bezels are suspended from slender gold spacers, which are likewise suspended from the fretwork motif earring tops. These earrings have an elegant aesthetic that recalls ancient design concepts, but their grand scale is appropriate for the time in which they were made, the 1980s.
Total length is approx 2.6”.
These are ear clips, but the backs can be easily and respectfully fitted with a small drill-hole and a post. Please contact us if you would like these altered for pierced ears. These earrings were part of Lalaounis's Far East collection— they are documented in the book Metamorphoses, and a similar pair of earrings has been displayed at the Ilias Lalaounis museum.
