Georgian Era Mourning Ring with Jet Halo for Mary Chippindale in 9k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A classic mourner, beautifully inscribed in Remembrance of Mary Chippindale, and dated for 1817, the year of her crossing o’er. This old darling is made in a manner typical of the period— it features a plaited lock of hair that rests beneath a domed, rectangular, crystal, where it is encircled by a halo of faceted, collect-set, jet gems. This ring has an especially lovely shank— its weaving, serpentine form terminates in a flat bow, at the base. This is all original, and the jet gems do show the expected facet-wear, under magnification. Metal is 9k rose gold.
US 6 1/4. This ring should not be resized.
Ring face measures approx 12 x 14.1 mm; shank measures approx 6.5 mm at the shoulder and tapers to approx 2.2 mm at the base; jet gems measure approx 3 mm; hair panel measures approx 8.5 x 5 mm
