Black Basalt Mourning Locket with Diamond Set Monogram
* * SOLD * *
A large, custom made, Georgian era mourning locket with a face of Wedgwood black basalt. This material is very black, truly matte, and lightly porus. The face is decorated with an elaborate flat-wire monogram— the monogram is made in 14k yellow gold and embellished with clusters of glinty, rose-cut diamonds. The locket's reverse is a heavy circular mount of 14k gold, encircling a ring of black enamel, encircling a notched ring of gold. A knot of pale blond hair rests under crystal in the central circle. This locket is fitted with both a hinged bail and a pin back. The c-catch is a broad flat ribbon. This is especially fine metalwork— it's bold and elegant and almost impossibly precise. Monogram may read SRS.
Wedgwood black basalt
Measures approx 36 mm in diameter, and approx 6.5 mm thick. Diamonds range from 2 mm - .5 mm.
The base material of the locket's face is matte-black, Wedgwood-style ceramic. It is, of course, not possible to see if there is an actual Wedgwood mark on the underside, because of the construction of the locket.
