Art Deco Orange Blossom Filigree Solitaire Engagement Ring in 18k Gold
* * SOLD * *
An Art Deco era engagement ring, with a slender bombe profile, whose 18k white gold setting is a floral-inflected filigree. This decor is an arrangement of milgrain lattice work, high polish binding ribbons, and romantic orange blossoms— the orange blossom shape is mirrored in the scalloped edges of the ring's six prong buttercup mount. A very pretty, half carat, early-modern-brilliant-cut diamond is set securely into these six prongs. This is a fairly low-profile ring. The decor details are crisp and extend about three quarters of the way down the half-round shank, which tapers toward the base.
Historically and across cultures, orange blossom flowers have symbolized purity, innocence, chastity and fertility, and so they have long been associated with brides. Orange trees are known to bear fruit and flowers simultaneously— this is probably the reason the flowers became associated with fertility.
