Art Deco Era Scroll Form Engagement Ring with Diamonds & Sapphires in 18k Gold
* * SOLD * *
An unusual, Art Deco era ring, modeled in 18k white gold, whose face resembles a scroll, with curled ends. This wonderful old filigree ring is brimming with fine details! Shapely, window-like, knife-wire panels decorate its shoulders, and the ends of its scroll-like face. A pair of brilliant blue sapphires rest in paisley-shaped seats, in the NW & SE quadrants of the ring face, where they are framed by further, zig-zagging, open-work decor. And at center, a curvy, sash-like series of five old mine cut diamonds divides the ring face on the diagonal. All of the open-work elements are finished with milgrained edges. The ring's half-round shank is decorated with floral engraving; it tapers toward the base. We love period rings like this one, whose design is maximalist, elaborate, but also carefully orchestrated, with many unexpected elements hanging harmoniously together! This is low profile, and it would make a wonderful, unique engagement ring. Its scroll-like form might suit a poet or orator. It could also represent an announcement: a new baby perhaps. Marked 18k for purity.
