Woven Hair Brooch for L.H. Bliss
* * SOLD * *
A sizable 19th century brooch, featuring two different locks of human hair (strawberry blond and silvering brunette), woven together and set beneath a beveled crystal. This plaited arrangement is encircled by an especially pretty natural pearl surround. The base of the brooch, and the many cut down collet settings are 15k yellow gold. This brooch was perhaps intended as a romantic gift for a sweetheart— its reverse is inscribed (in curling period script) "L.H. Bliss from J.B." It is an especially attractive example of sentimental jewelry featuring hair. The pearls are excellent and the hair itself is beautiful and beautifully preserved.
The foxtail chain and twisted pin are original to this brooch; they are intended to offer the wearer additional security against loss.
Measures approx 33.5 x 23.6 mm; pearls measure approx 2.7 - 3 mm.
Please inquire if you are interested in converting this brooch to a pendant or necklace.
