An unusual antique ring, modeled in 14k yellow gold, whose gem is a miniature, tinted celluloid portrait. The subject of this oval portrait is a mustachioed gentleman wearing a brown jacket and necktie— he sits before a hazy blue backdrop. The ring’s openwork shoulders are each decorated with a stylized tulip, and inside these tulips, an infinity symbol. The ring shank is stem-like, where it meets the base of the tulips— it is graved with a single line, and it tapers toward the base. This intriguing old darling dates to 1920 - 1930. It holds the smallest celluloid button we’ve ever seen, at about 1/2” tall. We love this ring for its strange, sweet quality, its earnest character, and its dreamy, muted color-way! This is marked for purity. The backside of the ring head is a smooth, closed compartment.
