1980s Modernist Australian Opal & Diamond Pendant in 14k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A vintage pendant featuring a large, top-quality, Australian opal, presented in an oval shape and oriented east-west, beneath a diamond-set bail. This imaginative bail can be read as a leaf or a flame, the former because the opal's east west setting creates the illusion of a fruit, and the latter because this opal is full of multicolored, dimensional fire. The 14k yellow gold bezel that holds the opal cabochon is weighty and impeccably made, as is the clever (14k yellow and white gold) moveable bail. This striking pendant is one-of-a-kind and the condition of the opal, which is unbacked, is perfect. This design is a great example of 1980s studio jewelry and its fascination with the modernists of the 1950s. This opal's exceptional fire presents in blue, green, yellow, red, and orange, and violet.
