Victorian Era Horse Intaglio Bloodstone Signet Seal Ring in 15k Gold
* * SOLD * *
A Victorian-era, intaglio-carved, bloodstone signet ring, modeled in 15k yellow gold, whose subject is a horse with a docked tail and a noble bearing. This old intaglio was carved by a deft, elegant hand, and there’s something especially moving about the scale of the horse, and its stark placement, in the middle of an otherwise empty field. The bloodstone is heavily flecked with bright red figuring that seems to cling to its surface. The ring's bezel is broad and smooth. It's wide, tapering shank is deeply carved with reeded decor, and these "ridges" come together at the base. This ring was worn and used as a wax seal, so there is some endearing wear to the bezel and the beautifully-figured gem.
