A rare and wonderful Victorian era ring, modeled in 14k yellow gold, whose gem is a hand-painted, reverse-carved, intaglio crystal, depicting the face of a red fox. This three-dimensional fox mask appears to float under a crystal dome, atop a luminous mother of pearl field— the art of reverse-carving creates the illusion of depth, so that the face of our beautiful animal looks different from every angle, as he would in life. This reverse-carved intaglio crystal is mounted in a heavy bezel, that nests inside the ring's impressive, figural mount. The body of the mount is composed of a carved-and-engraved, naturalistic arrangement of oak leaves, branches and acorns— these botanical, figural elements curve around and occasionally eclipse the crystal, cradling it in the most beautiful way! The mount's tree-branch elements blend-out at the shoulder to become a substantial, tapering shank.
