Modernist Bertel Gardberg Dexterity Puzzle Under Smoky Quartz Ring in 18k Gold
* * SOLD * *

A mid 20th century ring, made by the well-loved Finnish modernist Bertel Gardberg. This ring is, at first glance, bold and minimal, featuring a high dome smoky quartz cabochon that is softly oval, oriented east west, and mounted in a smooth bezel, atop a weighty flat-wire shank. The ring's complex secret is the miniature dexterity game that lies beneath the quartz cabochon— movement causes the small gold balls to move along the maze's dotted spiral tracks, and the magnifying quality of the quartz creates convex visual illusion that gives the ring a magical quality. This ring is completely unique and absolutely wonderful. Gardberg's independent work is seldom offered and a piece of his jewelry, made in gold, is a rarity.
