Vintage Stanley Carroll Turquoise & Stamping Collar Necklace
* * SOLD * *
A heavy, vintage collar necklace, made in sterling silver by Stanley Carroll. This collar is comprised of seven, graduated panels, linked together with handmade hinges— this hinge-work is admirably executed and the mechanics are especially fluid. The face of each of these shallow, hollow-form panels has been stamped precisely, with handmade tools, in a pattern that suggests traditional fans made of feathers. The center panel features a large, untreated, turquoise cabochon, set in a fancy, file-work-embellished bezel. This turquoise stone is vibrant, teal-leaning blue, with dark red-brown matrix; this gem contains small flecks of marcasite, and the blue areas have a subtle, webby, dark-and-light variegation. The back half of the collar is finished with a length of handmade chain, and half of the links in this chain are hashed with decorative filing. Closure is a shepherds hook and eye. Marked with the artist's pictographic mark, and for sterling silver. This piece is both opulent and soulful.
Straight length is approx 16 3/4". Collar measures approx 29 mm at the center, and approx 14.75 mm at the narrowest point. Turquoise measures approx 19 mm x 25.85 mm. Weight is approx 110.7 grams.
