A wonderful Georgian-era pendant, modeled in 18k yellow gold, whose primary element is a rare, opaque, turquoise-blue, glass cameo. This cameo depicts Cupid (Eros), seated on a stone and holding aloft a wreath of laurels. The cameo is bordered by an inner bezel, which is decorated with fine notches that give it a coiled appearance. A smooth, polished bezel surrounds the decorative inner bezel. The mythological subject matter, here, is sweet and poetic— the laurel wreath symbolizes victory, thus the allegory is the "triumph of love." If you look closely you can even make-out a small butterfly perched on the laurel wreath. The butterfly represents psyche, Cupid's lover (psyche is also the word for butterfly, in Ancient Greek). This is a sweet, and especially ephemeral object! We love it’s vibrant blue color, and its secret message. This pendant hangs from a large oval jump ring.
