An unusual WW1 (Edwardian) era watch fob, modeled as a highly realistic rope-and-tension snare drum. This 14k gold drum has a lightly-domed glass front that opens to reveal a compartment, made to hold a miniature, folded, 48-star American flag. The reverse drum face is a set with an iridescent mother of pearl disc. The body of the drum is continuously engraved with plumes and flowers, and its "tension ropes" are fine, twisted pairs of gold wire. Fobs like this one are quite rare and when found they are rarely of this fine quality— it would have been made to serve as an outward show of patriotism during the 1st World War. This fob bears a small, engraved, design number 6758S, and is marked 14k for purity.
