This ring is an especially fine example of scarab ring genre— its setting is unusual, but it remains elegant and restrained in its design. Marked 18c. Notes

Scarab rings from this era are all set with drilled beads. Some of these beads are ancient (hailing from Egypt) and some are reproductions dating to the 1920s. There are similar scarab beads still being made today, but they do not compare with the old stuff. This lovely scarab is guaranteed to date to the Art Deco era, but we believe it is older. Faience is a ceramic material made with quartz.

Condition is wonderful; the twisted rope border is complete and uninterrupted, though the head-on photo makes it appear as if a spot is missing.
