A striking 1940s engagement ring, modeled in platinum, whose primary gem is a 2.53c Old European Cut diamond (J/K, SI1). This lively hand-cut diamond has the small table, steep crown facets and open culet the beloved old cut is known for, and its charming faceting pattern creates a subtle, star-like arrangement in the face of the diamond. This primary diamond is held in a hand-pierced, four-prong basket. Astride it, a geometric series of accent diamonds (a rectangular baguette, a triangle, and a round) decorate the ring's shoulders. The ring's knife-edged, half-round shank tapers toward the base. We love the big, soulful diamond that rules this classic engagement ring, along with its smart, unusual shoulder decor! The slightly industrial, architectural vibe of the late 1940s stands in beautiful contrast here to the ring's sparkling diamond. Construction is exceptional.
This ring is marked for the renowned old Portland firm Zell Brothers (1912-2009). It is accompanied by a GIA graduate gemologist appraisal.
